Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the chairman of Grupo Salinas group and Mexico’s third richest man, is promoting Bitcoin on social media.

The billionaire, whose fortune is currently estimated at over US$13 billion, changed his Twitter bio over the weekend, adding the hashtag Bitcoin (BTC). Twitter users in the crypto space and ov Bitcoin Evolution some of Salina’s more than 840,000 followers reported the change on Saturday. Speaking to Cointelegraph in December, Salinas revealed he had first bought Bitcoin in 2013 at $200 and later sold it during the 2017 bull run when the price rose to $17,000. The crypto asset was his „best investment ever“, he said.

In November, Salinas said he had invested 10 per cent of his „liquid portfolio“ in BTC, while the rest had been „invested in precious metals mines“. The 65-year-old billionaire bought in before the bitcoin price rose to new all-time highs in December and January and more than doubled his investment. He said he does not plan to sell for at least five years.

Salinas is not the only billionaire using social media to promote crypto

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also re-promoted the cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE). Musk in recent weeks targeted DOGE users. The token came in a pump-and-dump fueled by Reddit traders and investors. DOGE’s price has risen nearly 600 per cent in the last 30 days.
